Overview
The Radix MDM has a set of commands to power down or turn on a remote device in your fleet. These commands can be found under the Power heading in a device’s drop-down menu in the Devices Table:
- Restart,
- Shutdown,
- Wake On LAN,
- Standby,
- Wake Up
These commands will work on a remote device running the Android operating system, such as a tablet or Smart TV. However, let’s say you are using an Android TV (=ATV) device in the form of a dongle or set top box. You will install the VISO agent app on this Android TV device. You then connect this ATV device to the HDMI port of your display monitor. When you send the Standby and Wake Up commands to these Android TV devices, they will in turn put the display monitor in Standby or Wake Up mode. Standby will turn the display monitor off, while Wake Up will turn the display monitor on. Thus, the display monitor is not directly managed by the VISO agent app. Instead, the display monitor is thus controlled indirectly via HDMI-CEC commands sent from the Android TV device.
Note: To use these commands, the display monitor must support HDMI-CEC. The Android TV device must be inserted into a HDMI-ARC or HDMI-eARC port on the display monitor.
Accessing the Standby and Wake Up Commands
There are several ways of accessing the Power commands:
From the Device Dashboard
1. Click on the Devices icon in the sidebar menu. The Devices Table opens.
2. In the Devices Table, find the Android TV device that you would like to use to control the display monitor. In our example, we selected the device with the Device ID “cedd2d812b9ff7f0”.
3. After locating your device in the Device Table, click on the device’s three-dot (“Device Actions”) menu in the far-right-hand column, and drill down to Power>Standby or Power>Wake Up.
From the Bulk Actions Button
Another method to access the Standby and Wake Up commands is from the Bulk Actions button.
1. Click on the Devices icon in the sidebar menu to open the Devices Table.
2. Select the device, or several devices, that you would like to use to send the Standby or Wake Up by clicking on the checkbox in the far-left column of the device’s listing. The Bulk Actions button will become active.
3. Go to Bulk Actions>Power>Standby or Wake Up.
Using Wake Up or Standby on a Group of Devices
If you have created a group of devices by assigning them tags, you can apply the Wake Up and Standby command on the entire group of devices.
To access Wake Up or Standby on a group of devices:
1. Click on the Devices icon in the Overview Dashboard, to open the Devices Table.
2. Click on the Groups icon in Devices Table to open the Groups pane (if it is not open already). All of the existing groups of devices will be displayed.
3. Use the Search bar at the top of the Groups panel to find a particular group. In our example, we will select the group “ATV”, which is comprised entirely of Android TVs with the identifying tag “atv”.
4. After you locate the desired group of devices, click on the group’s three-dot menu, Group Actions and drill down to Power>Standby or Wake Up.
Using Wake Up and Standby
Once you have accessed the Standby command, the following dialog box opens:
When you click on the Wake Up command, you receive the following dialog box:
Using Wake On LAN
The Wake-on-LAN window prompts you to select a device or devices that you want to wake up. See Using the Wake on LAN Command on the Radix website.
