Overview
The Radix Device Management Platform has two options to view and analyze device usage. The Insights button will allow you to view app usage on groups of devices, while the Metrics command will allow you to concentrate on specific devices, or even a single device. These commands provide you with graphical displays of app usage on devices. They will tell you which apps are used the most and which are used the least. This information can help you make fact-based decisions to optimize the usage of the remote devices in your fleet and allow you to make the best use of these devices. You can also create Excel spreadsheets of app usage to compile and analyze the results.
Accessing the Metrics Command
To access the Metrics Insights command:
1. In the Overview Dashboard, click on the “Devices” icon on the left side. The Devices Table opens.
You can select the scope of devices whose usage you wish to analyze:
A Single Device
1. In the Devices Table, find the device whose metrics you would like to analyze.
2. Click on the device’s three-dot menu>Device>Metrics:
Multiple Selected Devices
1. In the Devices Table, select the devices whose usage you wish to analyze by first clicking on their checkboxes.
2. Click Bulk Actions>Device>Metrics.
A Device Group
You can use the Groups pane to analyze the usage of a group of devices. If you do not see the Groups pane in the Devices Table, click on the Groups icon to expand the Groups pane.
1. Find the group for which you would like to view its app usage metrics by using the Search bar in the Groups pane.
2. When you click on the group, the devices in the group will be displayed in the Devices Table. In our example below, we have a group named “HA195F3Y”, which contains a single device.
There are two methods to view the metrics of a device group:
Method One: Using the Insights Button
1. Click on Insights to get a display of app usage metrics for the devices in the group.
Clicking Insights will display the device metrics for the devices in Group "10"
If you don’t select a specific group, clicking Insights will display the "All" group, including usage data for all devices in your fleet.
Method Two: Using the Group Actions Menu
Alternatively, you can click on the group’s Group Actions three-dot menu to access the Metrics command.
1. Click on the group’s three-dot menu>Device>Metrics:
Clicking Metrics will display usage metrics for the devices in Group "10"
Selecting the Data Range
At the top of the Insights or Metrics pane, click on the Pick data range textbox to select a range of dates for which to view the app usage.
Summary of the Metrics Displayed
Here is a brief summary of the metrics that are displayed:
Firmware versions distribution:
This displays the firmware versions of the devices in the group, and how many devices use that firmware version.
Selected app version distribution:
This displays a drop-down list of app versions installed on the devices in the group.
Popular apps:
This displays the most popular apps and the number of devices running them.
Device Daily Usage Trend:
This displays the number of devices running by hour.
Applications daily usage trend:
This displays the apps and the number of minutes the app runs on a remote device.
Issues trend:
This displays the number of issues with device functioning: lost Wi-Fi connectivity and multiple reboots.
App usage graphs:
This displays the apps that are used the most and the apps that are used the least. If you place your mouse over one of the histograms, it displays the number of hours the app is in use.
App Usage:
This is a searchable list of all of the apps running on the devices in the group, and the amount of time they have been running.
You have three functions at the top of the pane:
- - Search bar: This allows you to view the use of a particular app:
- - Export to CSV, which allows you to display the app usage information in the form of an Excel spreadsheet. It is in the following form:

- - Sort ascending/descending: This gives you the option of whether to display the apps in ascending or descending order of time of usage.
App usage ring chart:
On the right-hand side, you will see the App usage chart that will help you get a qualitative comparison of how much each app is used. Hovering your mouse pointer over a particular app will show you how much time the user employed that app.
List of Devices:
This displays each device, its operating system, its identifying tags, and the apps used the most on each device.
You can click on the Export to CSV icon at the top far right to create an Excel spreadsheet of the most and least used apps, and how much time they were used on each device selected.
