In the event that a remote device is lost or stolen, the Radix Device Management Platform has a set of commands to secure the device. For example, you can track a lost device with a geolocation function. You can also lock it down using the Lock Device command, or even wipe all personal data with the Wipe Device command. There is also a command to set off a siren, to help you locate a lost device.
We will examine these device security options.
Where can you find the Lock Device command
There are two methods to access the Lock Device command:
- From the Device Dashboard
- From the device's three-dot menu
Method One: The Device Dashboard, from the Lock tab
To access the Lock Device command:
1. Click on the Devices icon in the sidebar menu to open the Devices Table.
2. From the list, find the device which you want to lock. You can use the Search bar at the top of the list.
3. Click anywhere on the row of the specific device. The Device Dashboard will open.
4. Click on Lock in the menu on the far-right side. A drop-down list will open, with the various security options.
Here is a brief description of the commands:

| Lock Device: This locks the device so that the user cannot change any of the settings. | |
| Unlock Device: This unlocks the device, to enable the user to change settings. |
| Get Lock Password: This allows you to retrieve the device’s password, that you can use to unlock a locked device | |
| Play Siren: Makes the device sound off an alarm. The Siren command will make the device sound an alert, even if the device has been disconnected from the Radix network. | |
| Factory Reset: Wipes the device and restores the device to factory settings. |
Method Two: From the Device's Three-Dot Menu
1. In the Devices Table, click on the device's three-dot menu on the far-right, and go to Block Device>Lock Device.
Using the Lock Command
1. When you click on Lock, you will receive the following prompt:
2. Clicking Yes will lock the remote device.
Using the Unlock command
1. To unlock a locked device, the administrator clicks on Unlock in the device’s dashboard. The following window opens:
2. Clicking Yes will unlock the remote device.
Unlocking a Device from the Remote User side
In the event that the remote user misplaced their device and requested that the Administrator lock it, it is possible to unlock it using a password, if the remote user finds their device later. The Administrator can provide a password to the remote user to unlock their device.
For the remote user to unlock a Windows device:
1. Press the key combination Alt-Ctrl-Shift-F9. You will receive a prompt requesting the device password:
2. For the remote user to unlock an Android device, the display will appear as follows:
When locked, the remote device will only be able to make emergency phone calls:
3. Enter the device password and click OK or click the checkmark on the Android device. This should unlock the remote device.
4. If you do not know the password, ask the Administrator to retrieve it by clicking on the Get Lock Password command in the Device Dashboard.
The following window opens.
4. The Administrator clicks Press to Retrieve Password to display the device password:
5. When the remote device user enters the password, this should unlock their device.
Using the Play Siren Command
The Play Siren command will activate the siren on the Android device. This would help the remote user locate their device if they misplaced it.
1. Click on the Play Siren tab in the Device Dashboard. You will receive the following prompt:
2. Click Yes to activate the siren on the remote device.
Using the Factory Reset command
If a remote device has sensitive data that you don’t want to fall into the wrong hands, you can use the Factory Reset--Wipe device command to restore the device to factory settings.
1. Click on the Factory Reset tab in the Device Dashboard. You will receive the following prompt:
2. Click Yes to wipe the remote device.
