Radix provides built-in messaging tools for direct communication with devices in your fleet. These tools enable you to send operational updates, alerts, and other important notifications quickly and reliably.
The platform offers two messaging options: Advanced Message, for rich and interactive communication, and Direct Message, for simple text-based notifications.
The examples below demonstrate sending a message to a single device.
However, both messaging options can be sent to an individual device, a selected group of devices, or your entire fleet.
(Once created, a message can be reused and sent to additional devices or groups as needed.)
Sending an Advanced Message
Advanced Message allows you to create rich, interactive messages that combine text, images, audio, video links, and embedded content such as HTML or URLs. You can upload external audio files, record audio directly within the platform, and include YouTube content (with optional loop playback).
This flexibility makes Advanced Message especially valuable for time-sensitive and emergency communications, enabling you to immediately deliver clear, attention-grabbing messages to selected devices or entire fleets. It can also be used for digital signage, onboarding, and recurring announcements.
Radix also provides an API for third-party integration. Using the supported JSON format, external systems can trigger Advanced Messages and send them directly to selected devices.
To illustrate, we will compose an emergency message, including an image and alarm sound.
1. Click on the Devices icon in the sidebar menu to open the Devices Table.
2. From the list, find the device to which you would like to send the advanced message.
3. Click on the three-dot (kebab) menu in the far-right column of the device>Deploy>Messaging.
This opens the repository of messages:
4. Click on Add New in the lower left corner to open the New Advanced Message pane.
5. Assign a name and description to the new message.
Advanced Message settings:
- Display the message once when device turns on -- Click this checkbox to display the message as soon as the device turns on
- Set as private – This message will be visible in the Device Management Platform only to you.
- Hide content from others - Other users will be able to apply this message but cannot see or open its content
- Set as read-only – The message will be editable only you and admin users, and read-only for the others
- Set the device volume level (0% - 100%) – This allows you to control the volume of the audio in the message
- Switch active source – This will change the video input of the remote device to something other than its current input.
6. Click on the Content icon on the left. The Advanced Message Type screen opens, allowing you to add media to your advanced message.
7. Click on Add Image Asset and Add Audio Asset to open a repository of images and audio clips to use in an Advanced Message.
8. You can select an item from the repository of assets or click Add New to create a new image or audio asset.
In the example below, we chose to display a map of the hotel, indicating where the fire exits are located. We also included an audio clip with a fire alarm sound.

Sending a Simple Text Message
The Simple Text Message option allows you to quickly send clear, focused notifications to a remote device. This message format includes a title and body text only and appears prominently in the center of the device screen.
Because it does not include images or multimedia elements, it is ideal for straightforward operational updates, short instructions, or time-sensitive alerts that require immediate attention without distraction.
1. Click on the Devices icon in the sidebar menu to open the Devices Table.
2. From the list, find the device to which you would like to send the text message.
3. Click on the three-dot (kebab) menu in the far-right column of the device>Deploy>Direct Message.
4. In the Direct Message pane, supply a title and body for the message.
5. Click Confirm. The message will be sent to the remote device.
