The Radix Mobile Device Management Platform enables you to automate device behavior using the Schedule & Trigger command. By defining time-based or location-based triggers, you can streamline operations, reduce manual intervention, and optimize resource usage across your device fleet.
In this guide, we will demonstrate how to create a daily shutdown trigger to conserve electricity and help extend device lifespan.
Creating the Trigger
1. In the sidebar menu of the Radix Device Management Platform, click on Automation>Schedules & Triggers.
2. In the Schedule and Triggers window that opens, click on Add New, to create a new Trigger.
3. In the New Scheduler & Trigger window, assign a name and description of the Trigger.
4. Click on Add Trigger in the sidebar menu:
5. Click on the Select Trigger textbox and choose the relevant trigger type. You can define the action based on time (Timing), geographic location (Geofencing), Wi-Fi connection, or device startup.
For this example, select Timing.
6. We want this trigger to turn off all devices every day, with no end date. Therefore, in Timing Type, select Forever.
7. Fill out the rest of the fields with the following parameters:
- Start date: Use the date when you want the trigger to start.
- Execution time: Supply the time from when you want the trigger to execute. For example, we can choose to shut down devices every day at 10:00 PM.
- Range type: We have the options of selecting a defined interval, specific days of the week, or specific days of the month. We will select “Interval”, since we want this command to execute every day.
- Note: Select “Days of week” if you want the trigger to run only on specific weekdays.
- Trigger type: We can select by minutes, hours, days, or weeks. We will select “days”.
- This action will occur every: We will select “1”, since we want the devices to shut down every day.
8. Click Confirm.
This will save the Trigger option in the repository of triggers.
Applying the Trigger
Now we will assign the trigger to a command and put it into action.
We will illustrate using the trigger:
- On a group of devices
- On selected devices
- On an individual device
Using a Trigger on a Group of Devices
1. Click on Devices in the sidebar menu to open the Devices Table.
2. In the Groups pane, we will select the group “aep” on which to perform our trigger command.
